Shuswap Theatre’s next Mainstage production, Leading Ladies, opens Friday, Feb. 24 and runs to March 3.

Longtime Shuswap Theatre member, both on stage and behind the scenes, Julia Body  directs this hilarious modern farce by Ken Ludwig (Moon Over Buffalo, Lend Me A Tenor).

Set in 1958 Pennsylvania, two English actors – Jack and Leo – find themselves so down on their luck they are reduced to performing Scenes from Shakespeare on the Moose Lodge circuit in Amish country.

Leo hears that an old lady is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long-lost English nephews. He and his buddy, Jack, decide to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives to get the cash.

The trouble is that the “nephews” are really nieces and when Leo and Jack discover this, the pandemonium begins.

Romantic entanglements, mistaken identities, and downright hilarity ensues especially when Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady’s vivacious niece, Meg, who’s engaged to the local minister. Meg knows that there’s a wide world out there, but it’s not until she meets “Maxine and Stephanie” that she finally gets a taste of it.. This is a play that will appeal to everyone.

Tickets at $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and $7 for students are available at Wearabouts  If there are remaining tickets for each performance, they will be available at the door (cash or cheque only). Shuswap Theatre is a Shugo participant.
