Raise your spirits and your voices for a musical journey
Last September Bruce Vogt led Sooke songsters on their journey of musical remembrance at the second Sooke Community Sing-Along and he has kindly agreed to accompany us again on keyboard as we choose the songs we want to sing.
The sing-along will be held on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 2:30 p.m., at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 1962 Murray Road.
This community sing-along offers Sooke and neighbouring communities an afternoon of song, fun and entertainment. The songbooks, supplied at the door, provide words for 200 songs, from old time favourites, musicals, movies, folk songs to pop songs. All are chosen because they are widely known and loved and are ‘easy to sing to.’
Under the leadership and accompaniment of Bruce Vogt, feet will be set a tapping and voices raised up in song. The audience is encouraged to choose the songs and to sing – loudly! The afternoon’s entertainment is sure to raise your spirits.
Bruce Vogt has accompanied audiences at numerous Sing-Alongs in the Victoria area, and has compiled lyrics of well-known music for these popular events. He gives freely of his time and talent to encourage people to sing and share a love of music. Vogt’s easy style and delightful patter earned him many new fans at his last ‘gig’ here in Sooke.
Professor Vogt is head of the Piano Department at the University of Victoria, School of Music, with a number of CDs to his credit. He has performed with the Victoria Symphony and in Europe, the United States, Japan, and across China, and has an international reputation for his interpretation of Franz Liszt’s work.
The event is being hosted and sponsored by the Sooke Community Choir, not as performers, but as fellow music lovers. All of the singing will be done by everyone. Entrance is by donation, with net proceeds going towards the ongoing costs of the Sooke Community Choir. Refreshments will be available.
