On May 6, the Sparwood Coal Miner Days Society held the second Sip and Paint fundraiser of the year. Tickets sold out in three days for the 40 space painting session. Participants learned step-by-step how to paint a piece of work by Sue Hanlon.
The $45 per person cost covered instruction, a drink, as well as canvases and painting supplies.
According to Coal Miner Days Coordinator, Justine Bowen, the Sip and Paint held earlier this year was so successful that a May edition was a warranted idea.
“We had previously held one in February and it went over very well, so we decided to do another one as a fundraiser for Coal Miner Days,” she said.
The event raised $938 toward running the 2016 Coal Miner Days. Feedback from the event was great, according to Bowen.
“A lot of women came for the second time and they enjoyed it as much as the first time,” she said.
The Sip and Paint event would not have been possible without the art and artist said Bowen.
“The Coal Miner Days Society would like to thank Sue Hanlon for all of her hard work in helping to make this a successful fundraiser,” she said. “She is an amazing artist and a great teacher.”
Next up for Coal Miner Days is the weekend itself, following a meeting on June 8 at the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 p.m.
