Small Town Artillery to play Castlegar show

Small Town Artillery will be performing at the Castlegar Library's outdoor stage August 18.

A live music performance is headed for Castlegar’s amphitheatre.

Small Town Artillery will be performing at the Castlegar Library’s outdoor stage at 7 p.m. on August 18.

The rock and roll band is originally from Kaslo, B.C. Founding members Tom and Derek van Deursen, have been playing together for 20 years.

In 2019 the band played more than 70 shows, including highlights such as headlining Edge Of The World Festival on Haida Gwaii, the Holland stage at Kaslo Jazz Etc. Festival and opening up for critically-acclaimed Canadian funk band Five Alarm Funk (FAF).

In 2018 they were chosen as one of the top 100 bands in Canada by CBC Searchlight judges, signed to Jump Attack! Records, and released their third LP — Don’t Talk Away The Magic, which won an Akademia Award for best rock album 2018.

After scheduling 42 performances for spring 2020, they were sidelined by COVID-19 and began to play small concerts in outdoor spaces.

Event organizer Steve Gosselin says their success is due to their high-energy live show, robust horn section, relentless self promotion, and strong desire to see a childhood dream realized.

Local singer/songwriter Steve Marc will open the show with a short set of worldly original music.

Tickets are $20 upon entry.
