Solo exhibitions open at the gallery

Two solo exhibitions by two prairie-based artists have just opened at the Campbell River Art Gallery.

The Braid Harvesters by Amalie Atkins and Amulet by Kiarra Albina will remain at the Gallery until June 2. Everyone is welcome to learn more about these two exhibitions at a talk with Campbell River Art Gallery curator Julia Prudhomme, Thursday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Atkins is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Saskatoon. She creates cinematic fables through a blend of film, textiles, installations, performance, and photography, imprinting a fictional world onto everyday life. The artist has shown nationally and internationally and toured with major survey exhibitions.

The Braid Harvesters is one fragment of a larger film installation project called we live on the edge of disaster and imagine we are in a musical. The exhibition features an immersive fort in which the viewer is invited to enter to view a film.

Atkins works in 16mm film and creates the costumerie, fort materials, and props from her background in textiles. The Braid Harvesters is sponsored by Tremain Media.

Albina is a Calgary-based artist who works within and between the disciplines of drawing, painting, traditional animation, bookmaking, installation, and sound. Amulet features a new suite of works on paper that are magical and figurative. Amulet is sponsored by Sandy Baker, Re/Max Check Realty.

The Campbell River Art Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. and moves to summer hours, seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 22.
