Musicians are performing during a benefit concert to raise money to sponsor a Syrian refugee family to come to Nanaimo.
The concert, Songs for Syria, is Friday (Sept. 30) at 7 p.m. at Christ Community Church, located at 2221 Bowen Rd.
The concert features TerraZetto, Tracy Myers and Myron Makepeace from Tongue and Groove, Mama’s Kitchen and Sue Averill.
Trevor Greene, a member of the sponsorship group, will also speak about what led him to become an active refugee sponsor.
The concert is being hosted by the Nabil Sponsorship Group to sponsor a Syrian family, currently living in Lebanon, to come to Nanaimo. The family consists of a single father, Nabil, and his three young daughters.
“Working together in this diverse group of 18, some of whom came to Nanaimo as refugees themselves and are now extending help to others, is an inspiring experience,” said Eva Manly, a coordinator of the group, in a press release.
Admission is by donation. Donations of $50 or more will also receive at tax receipt.
