For our final concert of the season on Saturday, June 30, the Sooke Folk Music Society had a change of plans and is now proud to present David Sinclair and his special guest Kent Fiddy.
Sinclair has toured with Sarah McLachlan, k.d. lang, the Poppy Family and Prism. Growing up in Vancouver, Sinclair was first was exposed to the world of professional music at the age of 12. By 18, he was already a professional musician performing five to six nights a week in some of Vancouver’s notorious ‘east end’ cabarets, and appeared regularly as a feature vocalist on CBC TV’s ‘Let’s Go’ and ‘Where it’s At’ series.
In bands he toured with Corey Hart, Joan Armatrading, Loverboy, and Parachute Club. He appeared on television shows including Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, Arsenio Hall, Saturday Night Live, Larry Sanders, Good Morning America, Rosie O’Donnell, MTV Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers, The Grammy Awards Show, and Juno Awards.
As a studio guitarist, he has worked with many Canadian artists including Sarah McLachlan, Michael Bublé, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Rita MacNeil, Valdy, Susan Jacks, Terry Jacks, Prism, Irish Rovers, Gary Fjellgaard and many more. He has played on and composed music for many TV series and films, appeared on numerous occasions with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and a variety of musical theatre productions. Over the past few years, David has produced CDs for a number of artists, including Gary Fjellgaard, Shutterfly and B.C. folk/pop artist Kent Fiddy.
Sinclair recorded a CD with Fiddy a Vancouver Island-based singer/songwriter, entitled The Way it Oughta Be, featuring songs of the heart about Canada, relationships, reconciliation, hope and so much more.
Fiddy is a songwriter whose words and music touch the heart and soul of his listeners. His lyrics have been described as inspirational and poetic in the way they explore themes of love, loss, and redemption. Once heard, they are often unforgettable.
He has toured, lived and worked in most of this country. His songs reflect the stories of the people, places and history of Canada,and so much more. These include tunes like North Pacific Graveyard (B.C.), Ice Road (Northwest Territories), The Heart of the Country (Prairies), Farley on a Harley (Maritimes)and Bob Bartlett (Newfoundland). It is an original mix of pop, Celtic, country and jazz-influenced roots. This is Canadiana roots music at it’s very best.
Inspired, evocative and compelling, join Sinclair and his musical partner, Kent Fiddy, as they take you on a journey across the curve of time.
It all happens this Saturday, June 30 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church on Murray Road, for this exciting finally to our concert season. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with our concert commencing at 8 p.m. Tickets will only be available at the door for this show.
As a final note, we had announced at our last coffee house that we would be holding our Annual General Meeting on June 30 at 3:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity. We have now rescheduled this meeting for Tuesday, July 10 at Village Foods upstairs meeting room at 7 p.m. We hope those interested in being a part of our coffee house group will come out to our AGM.
