Shuswap Theatre’s Heartbreak House previews Thursday, May 5. Opening night is Friday, May 6 and includes cash bar and complimentary appetizers after the show. Show runs to May 14. Showtime is 8 p.m., with a matinee at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8. Two-for-one Tuesday is May 10.

 

 

Music festival

The 11th annual Shuswap Music Festival concludes with the Night of Stars gala at 7 p.m. Friday, May 6 at First United Church. Admission is $5 per person or $20 per family.

 

 

Lasqueti treasure

Vernon author Jean Oben Cox will appear at the Book Nook on Hudson Avenue from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7 to sign copies of her new book, The Spaniards’ Treasure, an adventure about treasure buried on Lasqueti Island.

 

 

Community Band

The Salmon Arm Community Band performs its annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at First United Church. Admission is by donation.

 

 

Reel deal

Shuswap Film Society presents The First Grader tonight, May 4. Set in Kenya, this is a true, uplifting story of an 84-year-old man who joins a class of six year olds, determined to learn how to read and write.

On Saturday, May 7, see West is West, a UK film in which Pakistani and English cultures collide. Both films reel out at 7:30 p.m. at the Salmar Classic.

 

 

Clowning around

The Clown ‘N’ Country Music Show runs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6 at the Salmar Classic. Advance tickets are available at the water shop on the Trans-Canada Highway beside Panago Pizza, or Touch ‘A’ Texas.

 

 

Dreadnoughts

With a hearty “Yo-ho-ho” and rambunctious music, the Dreadnoughts  return to the Hideaway Pub Sunday evening, May 8.

 

 

Rollin’, rollin’

The Louisiana Hayride in Story and Song is back at the SASCU Rec Centre for two shows, Sunday, May 8 at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available at Touch’A Texas and Wearabouts.
