Film fare

Shuswap Film Society presents the French film Le Havre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Salmar Classic. In a small town in Normandy, an old shoe shiner, Marcel Marx, creates a temporary safe haven for an illegal African immigrant and has a canny police inspector breathing down his neck.

 

Jazz club

Warm up cold January with the hot sounds of Cuban jazz from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at SAGA Public Art Gallery. Musicians include Cuban bass player Arianne Charon, drummer/percussionist Jeremy Tymkiw, along with the band, which includes Jen Dyck, Jordan Dick and Sandy Cameron. Admission is by donation.

 

Play time

The Literary Alliance of the Shuswap Society presents Play Again at the Salmar Classic at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27. Admission is by donation and all proceeds will go to the Lisa Rolland Children’s Literacy Fund, administered by the Shuswap Community Foundation.

 

Coffee house

A Red River Coffee House runs at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at the SASCU Downtown Activity Centre on Shuswap Street. Sing, play an instrument or dance and have fun. Admission is $2. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call Eldon at 250-832-7029.

All about women

The seventh annual It’s All about Women Conference and Exhibition runs Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Prestige Harbourfront Resort. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. with workshops, exhibitors, raffles and motivational speaker Linda Edgecombe, law of attraction expert Karen Luniw and women’s health speaker Dr. Janice Journeau.

The Take Back the Night gala with dinner, presentation of Shuswap Women of Distinction Awards and dancing, runs from 6 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $50 for daytime events and $50 for gala or $90 for both. Visit www.itsallaboutwomen.ca for more information.

 

Variety

Volunteers for Variety – The Children’s Charity host a breakfast at the legion from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29. The annual auction runs noon onward Saturday, Feb. 4, also at the legion.

 

Showtime

First United Church hosts their annual Fun Variety Concert Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and admission is by donation.
