SURREY — A gala event celebrating the Chinese Year of the Rooster will be held at Bell Performing Arts Centre on Sunday, Jan. 22.

The Chinese New Year event has been dubbed “Spring China at White Rock,” even though the theatre is located on 144th Street in Surrey.

International and local entertainers will perform at the event, presented by the White Rock Chinese Association in partnership with Peace Arch Hospital & Community Health Foundation. The presenting sponsor is Landmark Premiere Properties.

Event details were announced on Friday (Dec. 2).

The two-hour gala will feature close to 80 professional musicians, singers and dancers from China and close to home. The youngest performer will be four years of age.

“This celebration of the Chinese Lunar New year is dedicated to friendship and enhanced communication between China, Canada and the local community,” stated Joanne Ding, president of the Whtie Rock Chinese Association.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for local residents to celebrate and share our collective culture and traditions.”

Tickets for the event will “soon be available” for purchase on the Bell theatre’s website, Bellperformingartscentre.com.
