The Hundred-Foot Journey
Well, I thought this would be a good show and it beat all my expectations. This should be the hit of the summer. The Hundred-Foot Journey travels across the road and right into our hearts.
Based on the book by Richard Morais, directed by Lasse Hallstrom, produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, and starring Helen Mirren, it’s a pretty sure bet that the story will draw us in and touch us all. If you liked The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, you’ll feel right at home with this one.
Mirren plays a haughty French restaurant owner, who meets her match when ‘Papa’ (Om Puri) opens an East Indian restaurant just 100 feet away. Needless to say, things get hotter than a tandoori oven.
While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is topping the box office this week, The Hundred-Foot Journey will get its share of fans who will want to see it more than once—take your friends and then go for some Indian food, it’s that seductive a show.
one funny line among many, when asked by an immigration officer: “Why are you leaving London?” Hassan (Manish Dayal) replies: “I find the vegetables have no life.” Well, I thought it was funny, having been in London when our dollar was worth less than half of the pound and I paid (Canadian) $13 for a side of broccoli—did it have life? Not sure, but it didn’t taste like $13 worth.
There are stories within stories here as life’s layers blend and the characters weave the many facets of their hopes and dreams to bring us a wonderful couple of hours of delightful enjoyment.
Just go see it. Oh and by the way, if you did enjoy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, in 2015 The Second Best Marigold Hotel is coming to theatres with the cast we love. Can’t wait!
