A Stella Maris Choir concert this Sunday (June 24, 3 p.m. Good Shepherd Church, 2250 150 St.) will both a preview of the choir’s upcoming tour of Europe and a fundraiser for the Surrey Food Bank.
Selections from the tour repertoire will include sacred pieces such as Larry Nickel’s Sing For Joy and Rachmaninoff’s Rejoice O Virgin, several gospel songs and secular pieces including works by Mendelssohn, Beethoven and South Surrey’s own Anna Boots.
Tenor soloist Kiel Magis will be highlighted in Leonard Cohen’s Halleluja, and the concert will also feature accompanist Henri Lorieau and Elgin Secondary pianist Vivian Jinn.
On their second tour to Europe, the choir will share their music in Hahnheim, Germany; St. Stephen’s Dom in Vienna, Austria; St. Michael’s Cathedral in Bratislava, Slovakia, and in Poland, at the basilica of Divine Mercy in Krakow and the UNESCO heritage site Peace Church in Swidnica.
Admission is $10 at the door, $8 for seniors and students (elementary school age children free).
