Strawberry shortcake for mad hatters? Why not.
The Surrey Art Gallery Association (SAGA) welcomes the summer with a chance to wear a fun hat and enjoy fresh art and luscious local strawberries.
Be SAGA’s guest at the Mad Hatter’s Strawberry Tea and Tour on Thursday, June 23 at 7 p.m. at the Surrey Art Gallery (13750 88 Ave.)
Get a sneak preview of one of the Gallery’s summer exhibitions, Away: The Artist as Traveller, featuring works drawn from the permanent collection.
The Gallery’s assistant curator, Brian Foreman, will lead a 30-minute informal tour.
Following the tour, there will be a strawberry shortcake and tea reception ending at 8:30 p.m., with the opportunity to meet SAGA board members and gallery staff.
In keeping with the Mad Hatter’s theme, guests are encouraged to wear a “mad hat.” This event is free for SAGA members and $5 per person for non-members.
Away: The Artist as Traveller considers the importance of travelling away from home and how travel manifests itself in artists’ work.
From exploring landscapes to witnessing cultural events and making pilgrimages, artists offer us both familiar and unfamiliar images of the world.
Travel provides opportunities to see new things, meet new people, and learn about different cultures.
In doing so, we gain new perspectives on others and ourselves.
SAGA is a non-profit society that offers its members the opportunity to participate in and respond to contemporary art and be part of a community that actively supports the Surrey Art Gallery.
