Students flaunt school spirit and latest style in fashion show

EMCS students ready to light up the school theatre next Wednesday (March 15) with this year’s Grad Fashion Show.

Edward Milne Community School’s students are ready to light up the school theatre next Wednesday (March 15) with this year’s Grad Fashion Show.

Just like last year and the year before that, the students orchestrate a performance of light, colour, fashion, music and comedy, all in the name of fun and school spirit.

“There’s lots of energy … the kids are very sporty, very energetic, very artsy and they are fully involved,” said Blanche Oyler one of the coordinators organizing the event, adding there are also several parent volunteers and two choreographers who have joined forces this year as well.

Idea this year is the students using music from their own era, such as Mambo No. 5, or 80s hits such as Simple Minds’ Don’t You Forget About Me.

Two months in and a lot of rehearsing, co-coordinator Amber O’Quinn said the satisfaction the students get in the end for putting on such an extravagant, professional show makes all the hard work completely worth it.

“To go from start to finish with the kids, when their ideas are starting to come out, to the end where it all comes together, it’s an amazing feeling,” O’Quinn said.

The show started 22 years ago as a fun thing to do for school spirit, and try to involve the whole grad class. In turn, proceeds from the event go towards grad and prom fees.

A silent auction will is at 6 p.m., and show starts at 6:30. Treats will also be available. Tickets are $10 from the EMCS program office, at Shoppers Drug Mart or at the door.
