Scott Cook and the Second Chances are making their way from Edmonton, Alberta to Spirit Square in Golden on Wednesday, August 1 to play Summer Kicks with local band The Pickups.
The award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist mines a rich vein of folk soul, and has been hailed as one of Canada’s most inspiring and imaginative storytellers. His warmly-rugged voice and a keen eye for the heart of a song is backed up by his longtime trio, the Second Chances.
Cook has collected stories over the past 11 years touring across Canada, the U.S., Europe, Asia, Australia, and many other places, and brings them to life in his music. He has been nominated for the Canadian Folk Music Award, and won the folk acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest.
Every year since 2007, Cook has averaged more than 160 shows and a dozen festivals and has performed and showcased at more than 800 different venues and more than 150 festivals across the globe.
This year, Cook is a 2018 Kerrville New Folk Competition finalist, and has sold more than 10,000 albums independently, adding to his extensive repertoire as a Canadian musician.
He is joined at 7 p.m. in Spirit Square next Wednesday, August 1 by local talent, The Pickups, a father and son duo whose harmony is hard to beat. Their songs will keep the crowd moving in between Cook’s sets.
The following week, Wednesday, August 8, will bring Son de Madera, a traditional folk music band straight from the heart of Mexico, who plays with Will Wardwell.
Summer Kicks comes to an end on August 15, so anyone who has been debating going should get out and get dancing at Spirit Square. There are only a handful of performances left until Summer Kicks comes to its annual close.
