BC Country Music Award nominee Shelly Dubois will perform at the Mex Pub as the featured guest of the 1st Tuesday Fundraisers on Nov. 1.
Proceeds from the admission of a cash donation will go to her chosen charity, the British Columbia Childhood Cancer Parents
Association (BCCCPA).
Providing families with financial aid is a major part of the BCCCPA’s work. The BCCCPA works with BC Children’s Hospital, as well as Surrey Memorial and Victoria General’s Pediatric Oncology Departments, to help families in need through the Family Financial Aid Program.
Dubois is a singer/songwriter born and raised in Peace River, Alta., but who now makes her home on Vancouver Island.
“It starts with a song. The songs that can take your breath away or leave you with a tear in your eye. Add this to a beautiful, clear,
natural voice as strong as anybody coming out of Nashville these days,” says Robert McCourty, artistic director of the Island Folk Festival.
Well-loved for her exceptional stage skills, Dubois has been performing with her band across Alberta and B.C. during the past few months, giving crowd pleasing shows in the Peace River region and at the Calgary Stampede, as well as the Merritt Mountain Music Fest and Sunfest Country Music Festival.
A natural entertainer, Dubois was recently nominated by the BC
Country Music Awards in three categories: Female Vocalist, Horizon Award, and Traditional Country Award.
Her debut CD, I’m Not Looking Back, is a collection of well-written stories, made believable through her powerful vocals that visit classic country stylings and country rock with the same ease.
Having lost a child to cancer, Dubois is especially empathetic to the needs of families during such a time and is pleased to have the opportunity to give back through this and other fundraising efforts. She generously donates $3 from every CD sale to the Chantal
Dubois Memorial Fund, which then works in conjunction with the BCCCPA.
Joining Dubois on Nov. 1 will be two members from her band: guitarist Mark Wing and bassist Maurice Gaudreault. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. with a short opening set by 1st Tuesday hosts Judy and Bruce Wing.
Food donations are also appreciated as admission in support of the Comox Valley Food Bank Society.
In the past three years, the 1st Tuesday event’s feature artists and their generous audiences have raised thousands of dollars for
charities.
