Visitors and residents at Silver Star Mountain Resort will hear orchestral music wafting through the mountain air when the Okanagan Symphony performs there Monday, Feb. 28.
The free concert comes via the B.C. Spirit Festival Grant, and takes place at the National Altitude Training Centre and is limited to 180 seats.
Billed as Fanfare on the Silver Mountain, the creative collaborative performance will showcase celebratory music and winter culture and sports, and features an all-brass instrumentation concert combined with the rarely heard Alphorn.
There will also be a narrative presentation on Swiss mountain culture, as well as a narrative presentation by Olympic alpine skier Emily Brydon of Fernie, and Vernon Paralympic skier Josh Dueck.
The grand finale will feature the symphony performing Aaron Copland’s Fanfare For the Common Man to a projected slide show of 2010 Olympic moments, captured by renowned Canadian photographers and synchronised by local filmmaker Jim Elderton.
Tickets are limited and seating is based on a first come, first served basis, available at Silver Star’s resort service desk, Gallery Odin and Bean to Cup coffee house in Vernon.
