Prepare to get spooked this Halloween by… a symphony orchestra.
The Chilliwack Metropolitan Orchestra (CMO) presents Halloween Symphony Spooktacular, its 12th season premiere, on Oct. 27 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.
Maestro Gregory Johnston, artistic director of the CMO, selected Cristian Herki as the featured violinist for this themed concert. He is a Romanian violinist, now teaching at the Chilliwack Academy of Music.
“Both men are by nature playful, and I can only imagine what the two will brew up for Oct. 27,” says CMO member Paula Quick.
Herki will be the violin soloist in one of the eeriest pieces on the program, La Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saens.
Herki, the son of two university violin professors in Romania, holds three Master’s degrees – one in chamber music, another in Educational Management and a third in “Ethnotourism,” a burgeoning industry in North America at this time. His six years of professional experience performing and organizing music for Holland America Cruise Lines have sharpened his awareness of audience essentials as well as his collaborative capabilities.
Halloween Symphony Spooktacular will feature creepy classics such as Funeral March of a Marionette and In the Hall of the Mountain King, as well as spine-tingling movie scores like Batman, and Harry Potter.
The concert will also welcome some local personalities as the Witches of Chilli-wick (though you may not recognize them).
Costumes encouraged, and bring your camera.
The CMO’s Halloween Symphony Spooktacular is at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre at the Hub International Theatre.
