Take a voyage on the high seas through the songs of Tom Lewis

Ahoy mates!  Gardeners Green Folk Club in Merville is pleased to welcome the man of the sea himself, Tom Lewis, for our final house concert of the season, on Thursday June 9.

If you like songs and stories of the sea you’re in for a treat. Tom is a true entertainer and a fine singer, who often accompanies himself on button accordion or ukulele.

Born in 1943 in Belfast, Lewis spent his school years in England, and joined the Royal Navy a few days after his 16th birthday. He is a 24-year veteran of Her Majesty’s Royal Naval diesel submarines.

Lewis’ parallel career has been in the world of folk music, where he has become the best known shantyman and singer of sea songs in North America and Europe. His songs cover a wide range of nautical topics, from life on board H.M. ships, through the loneliness and lure of the sea, to traditional shanties and classic nautical poetry set to music.

Lewis and his wife Lyn now live on a houseboat travelling around on England’s restored canal system.  Lewis will perform in a Gardeners Green house concert during a brief return visit to B.C.

To join him for an evening of entertainment in a friendly and intimate environment, call 250-337-5337 for info and tickets.  As this event will be in a private home, seating is limited. Tickets are $20 and include a dessert buffet.
