Several years ago, aspiring young vocalist Nathan Letourneau won the Elizabeth Scott Vocal Bursary as he started his second year of studies for his bachelor of music.
This year, he has once again won the bursary as he starts his masters music degree (majoring in vocal performance) at New York University in the heart of Manhattan.
According to Letourneau, the two year program is geared to equip him for “an international career in voice performance.”
His studies will culminate in a colloquy in voice performance, which will be his thesis and final recital.
The younger son of Suzanne Zeindler and Okanagan Symphony concertmaster/first violinist Denis Letourneau, Nathan enchanted local audiences as a boy, especially in the title role of Amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors.
He continued singing, taking private lessons from now retired vocal instructor Elizabeth Scott, and also sang in her award winning teen choir Quartettoo until he graduated from the French immersion program at W.L. Seaton Secondary.
After graduating, Letourneau went on to get his business degree and worked for two years before starting his bachelor of music at the University of Toronto.
A recital he gave at UofT last spring was a mix of art songs in several languages, opera arias, and a full performance of the Seranade for Tenor, Horn and Strings by Benjamin Britten.
“We wish this young tenor well and will be watching to see how far his star will ascend,” said Catherine Dawson, with the Elizabeth Scott bursary committee.
