Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra makes stop in Chilliwack

The five-man orchestra is a collection of musicians linked by common sonic journeys and familial ties

A five-man orchestra is touring through B.C. this summer, and they’ll be in Chilliwack on Aug. 9.

The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra (TMO) is a collection of musicians, linked by common sonic journeys and familial ties.

The group announced the release of its sixth studio recording, We Make Really Party, followed by several dates on their British Columbia tour. The new EP features the first single ‘Head Tax.’

We Make Really Party is a five-song EP that returns to the old-world sounds the band is known for. With both original and re-imagined roots and folk songs in English, Spanish and Italian, We Make Really Party captures the band playing live off the floor in a three-day session after their 2016 summer tour. The record showcases how the music has been refined, both artistically and in terms of production, while remaining true to their roots.

“As with of our previous record, we found ourselves tracking the new songs, on friends’ land, but this time in Olds, Alberta. The band had been touring a big part of the summer, and felt tight so we figured it a good time to put some tunes down. The result is something that has that immediate live feel,” says band member, Kurt Loewen.

TMO has spent years weaving their stories with guitars, violins, accordions and bass, with melodies and music makers gleaned from their wanderings. Here are the troubadours to remind you that this music (no matter how you listen to it) could not exist without warm bodies in search of harmony.

The orchestra consists of Ian Griffiths (vocals, accordion, keys), Kurt Loewen (vocals, guitars), Paul Wolda (percussion, vocals), Mack Shields (fiddle, vocals), and Keith Rodger (double bass).

The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra performs Wednesday, Aug. 9 at Tractorgrease Cafe (48710 Chilliwack River Rd.) at 7 p.m.

Tickets $12 and available at 604-858-3814 or tractorgrease@gmail.com.
