Textiles auctioned for Africa

Artwork that stopped here in June has returned to Victoria. Turning the Tide … One Ripple at a Time is an art exhibit that made its way through the territory of Grandmother to Grandmother fundraising groups across Western Canada.

The art is on display through to March 10 at the Martin Batchelor Gallery in Victoria.

Admission is free.

The textile art are bright, three dimensional works on 20 by 30 inch canvasses.

“They’re beautiful, colourful … They each tell a story” said Joanne Egan, one of the organizers of a Peninsula show that kicked off the tour.

The pieces, based around the theme of turning the tide of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa, will be sold at auction during a gala fundraiser March 12.

All proceeds go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation to help African Grandmothers raise their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS.

Tickets are $100. Call 250-532-9038 for details.
