Music/Concerts

May 7 — Local musicians Aidan Mayes and Mandy Cole will be at the Downtown Community Market from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

May 7 — Jerry Doucette has opened for the likes of Bob Welch, Bob Weir (of the Grateful Dead) and Meat Loaf. Catch him at the Dream Café. Tickets $38.

May 13 and 14 — The Dream Music Festival at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre featuring Grammy Award winner Mike Farris, the Sojourners, Naomi Wachira, Rita Chiarelli, Lee Harvey Osmond and the Dream Festival Band with artists like Michael Kaeshammer, Paul Pigat, Bill Bourne, Keith Picot and more. May 14 — The Lonely, a tribute to Roy Orbison at the Frank Venables Theatre.

May 15 — Grammy winner Mike Farris sticks around for a show at the Dream Café after the Dream Music Festival. Tickets $40.

May 15 — The Spirit of Oliver Awards celebrates the many individuals and groups who give their free time to fundraise , improve health, and support businesses and events in the Oliver area. No admission, at the Frank Venables Theatre. All are welcome.

May 20 to 22 — The Barking Parrot’s summer patio music series presents Bob Bricker and Clint VanBlanken.

May 21— Pioneers of orchard rock, this Summerland band bring their talents to the Dream Café. Tickets $10.

May 27 — Maple Blues Award winner for artist of the year  Angel Forrest comes to the Dream Café. Tickets $24.

May 28 — Tim Williams and AL Lerman come to the Dream Café. Tickets $25.

May 28 — The Pernell Reichert Band kicks off the Tinhorn Creek Concert Series. Tickets $30.

May 31 — Under the direction of Dave Brunelle, the Penticton Concert Band performs at  7 p.m. at the Penticton United Church, 696 Main St. $15 Adults, $5 Youth/Students. Tickets available at the Church 250-492-2684 or through band members.

June 1 — Grammy nominated Lamb of God with special guests Clutch and Corrosion of Conformity at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

June 3 and 4 — Paul Gibbons visits the Barking Parrot for the summer patio music series.

June 4 — Two-time Juno winner Oscar Lopez brings Latin guitar to the Dream Café. Tickets $30.

June 10 and 11 — Joe Richards and Bob Bricker entertain at the Barking Parrot as part of the summer patio music series.

June 17 — Layla Vaugeos and Jason Bonnell stop by the Barking Parrot as part of the summer pation music series.

June 23 — Rock legend Meat Loaf comes to the South Okanagan Events Centre. Tickets from $49 to $95.

July 13 -— Don Henley brings the best of the Eagles and his solo career to the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Aug. 19 to 21 — The Ponderosa Music and Arts Festival takes place in Rock Creek.

Events

May 11— The Lip Sync Challenge returns to the Copper Mug Pub 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with events on May 11, May 18 and May 25, with finals on June 1.

May 12- — The Respect Lives Here film series presents Some Kind of Arrangement. A South Asian film exploring the age-old tradition of arranged marriages with a modern twist.  The event is free to the public, show time is 5 p.m. at the Oliver Library, 6239 Station St. Oliver.

May 16 — The Early Music Garden Party, hosted by the Penticton Academy of Music, is a fun informal chance for singers and musicians to get together to sight-read through music from the 16th Century. Enjoy the Leir House gardens, wine and cheese and a chance to help music from long ago come alive.  By donation to the PAMS bursary fund.

May 19 — The Respect Lives Here film series presents a film exploring residential schools, Fallen Feather, at the Sen Pok Chin Elementary School, 1006 McKinney Road, Oliver. This event is free, showtime 5 p.m.

May 21 — The May Long kickoff party takes place at the Barking Parrot with Flipout and Zak Santiago from Vancouver. Free until 9 p.m., $4 cover afterwards.

May 21 to 27 — South Okanagan Amateur Players present the 2016 OZone Festival. Seven nights and seven shows at the Frank Venables Theatre.

May 28 — Bend and Brew at Cannery Brewing Co. 10:30 a.m. to noon. Help raise funds for SOWINS yoga outreach. The yoga class is suitable for all levels, 19 years or older. Tickets are $25 and include yoga, a private beer tasting and Cannery coupon.

June 11 — Martin Street Art and Music Gallery presents afternoon high tea and spring fashion show. Tickets are $38 available at Shasdes of Linen at 156 Robinson Ave and the Martin Street Gallery.

June 15 — ARTWear, a wearable art fundrasier for the Penticton Arts Council takes place at the Cannery.
