CONCERTS

Oct. 10 to 11 — Gary Comeau and John Ellis perform New Orleans-style rocking roots at the Dream Café. Tickets are $20.

Oct. 11 — Live music by Our Sons at the Barley Mill Brew Pub.

Oct. 12 — Safe In Sound Festival comes to the South Okanagan Events Centre featuring Caked Up, Destroid, Doctor P, Flux Pavilion, and Terravita.

Oct. 17 — Russell Decarle, former lead vocalist and bassist of Prairie Oyster, at the Dream Café. Tickets are $24.

Oct. 18 — Live music by Will Schlakl at the Barley Mill Brew Pub.

Oct. 18 — Okanagan Symphony Orchestra presents Rhapsody (Deloitte masterworks) with special guest Ian Parker on the piano. Concert is at 7:30 p.m. at the Cleland Theatre.

Oct. 18 — Canadian alternative country singer-songwriter Carolyn Mark at the Dream Café. Tickets are $15.

Oct. 20 — The South Okanagan Concert Society presents Quartetto Gelato, known as the Cirque du Soleil of classical music. Virtuosic showpieces, romantic tenor arias, pyrotechnical solos, multi-instruments and a world accordion champion. They perform at the Venables Theatre in Oliver at 7”30 p.m. Tickets at Beyond Bliss or at the door.

Oct. 23 — The Osoyoos concert series presents The Bills, a high impact, acoustic folk music quintet from the West Coast. Tickets available at Imperial Office in Osoyoos or Sundance Video in Oliver. $23 in advance or $25 at the Osoyoos Community Theatre door.

Oct. 24 — Multiple CCMA winner Sean Hogan at the Dream Café. Tickets are $20.

Oct. 25 — Canadian acoustic group The Bills at the Dream Café. Tickets $24.

Oct. 25 — South Okanagan Big Band roast beef dinner and dance. 5:30 p.m. at the Penticton Legion. Tickets are $10.

Oct. 27 Classic rock fixture The Doobie Brothers at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Oct. 29 — Locomotive Ghost with Papa Thom at Elite after 6. Show starts at 8 p.m. By donation.

Oct. 31 — Halloween Bash at the Barley Mill Brew Pub with a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas.

Oct. 31 — Singer-songwriter Jeremy Fisher at the Dream Café. Tickets are $20.

Nov. 1 — The Contenders Tour with Valdy and Gary Fjellgaard at the Centre Stage Theatre in Summerland at 7:30 p.m. Ticketsat Martins Flowers, 250-494-5432.

Nov. 1 — Chicago style blues, swing, roots with country and rock thrown in for good measure, Brent Parkin plays at the Dream Café. Tickets are $20.

Nov. 7 — Oh What A Night, a musical tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. 7 p.m. at the Cleland Theatre. Tickets available at the community centre.

Nov. 8 — Live music by Uncorked at the Barley Mill Brew Pub.

Nov.8 — Kyle Anderson will be performing an evening of his original songs and other favourties at Opus Bistro in the Cannery Trade Centre. Tickets are $15 and available in advance at Opus.

Nov. 14 — Renowned chamber choir, musica intima joins the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. Called the most exciting small choir in the land they are combined with the OSO strings for Vivaldi’s Gloria and music of our time.

Nov. 14 — New Orleans blues and country effortlessly marry with the Devin Cuddy Band at the Dream Café. Tickets are $24.

Nov. 17 — Barra MacNeil’s Celtic Xmas bring their lush harmonies, intricate instrumental stylings, dancing and more to the Cleland Theatre. Tickets are $45 and available at the community centre.

Nov. 19 — Canada’s leading roots musicians perform at the Dream Café as the Black hen Roadshow Review. Jim Byrnes, Steve Dawson, Big Dave McLean, and Jeremy Holmes. Tickets are $40.

Nov. 22 — Live music by Mandy Cole at the Barley Mill Brew Pub.

Nov. 27 — Legendary musician John Fogerty’s coast-to-coast Canadian tour stops in Penticton at the SOEC, celebrating 1969 – the extraordinary year John Fogerty wrote and produced three seminal albums with Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Until Oct. 11 — The fall Okanagan Wine Festival with events all over the Okanagan. Signature events include the Valley First Grand Finale Consumer Tastings at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre on Oct. 10 and 11.

Oct. 11 — Author Laura Michelle Thomas will be at Coles Books in Cherry Lane Shopping Centre to promote her new novel The Naked Storyteller from 1 to 5 p.m.

Until Oct. 16 — Joel Whitehead’s, The Art and Fishing opening on Oct. 3 from 5 – 7 p.m.

Oct. 16 — Kitchen Stove Film Series presents Calvary. Film screens at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Penticton Landmark 7.

Oct. 17 to 30 — Guest artist Cecelia Louis-Ralston presents Creation, photography of reflected moments at the Front Street Gallery. Opening event Oct. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Oct. 17 to 19 — We Love Documentary weekend at the Shatford Centre featuring six documentaries and two workshops.

Oct. 18 — Apple Day at the Keremeos Grist Mill and Gardens. Pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and a barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. Family entertainment by Mat Duffus from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Apple pie contest judging at 1 p.m. Traditional games, music and the Heritage Players will present a 1890s melodrama at noon. Half-price admission and children six years and under are free.

Oct. 18 — Penticton’s Oktoberfest at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. Beer, food and dancing. Tickets are $25 and available at www.valleyfirsttix.com, by phone at 1-877-763-2849 or in person at the Valley First Box Office at the SOEC and the Wine Country Visitor Centre. All money raised at the event is donated back into the community.

Oct. 18 — Ground breaking ceremony for Penticton’s first public edible garden at Village by the Station (270 Hastings Ave.). Bring a plant or seeds for the garden. Kid’s games, learning stations, silent auction, cooking demonstrations, live performances and bring your own homegrown produce and homemade preserves to swap with neighbours. From noon to 3 p.m.

Oct. 19 and 22 ­­— Auditions are happening for Cake-walk, happening at the Shatford Centre in May. Four females (early 20s to 3aely 50s and two males, late 30s and any age for an announcer). Audtions are being held at the Shatford Centre at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 and 7 p.m. on Oct. 22. For more, call Judi at 250-770-1867.

Oct. 21 — Special reading and slideshow with author Chris Czajkowski at the Osoyoos branch of the Okanagan Regional Library at 7 p.m. Bestselling author of Cabin at Singing River and Lonesome: Memoirs of a Wilderness Dog is on tour with her new book, And the River Still Sings.

Oct. 25 — Thrash Wrestling returns to the Penticton Legion Hall. Tickets are $12 in advance t The Grooveyard, Home Hardware, 30 minute Hit and at the Legion. $15 on the day of the show.

Oct. 26 — Children’s Showcase opens their new season with Celso Machado: Sounds of the Rainforest at the Cleland Theatre. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., performance starts at 2 p.m. General admission $30, for complete series or single tickets at the door are $12. Available at Tumbleweed Gallery, Oliver Veterinary and The Beanery.

Oct. 26 — Andy’s Animal Acres second annual 101 Pumpkin Halloween Event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first 101 kids to come in costume will receive their own pumpkin with admission. Pumpkin carving contest at noon with prizes, bring your own ideas and utensils. Apple bobbing, pony rides, face painting, popcorn and drinks. Admission is $7, children under one year old are free and a family of four is $25.

Oct. 31 — Medieval Banquet, enjoy Halloween night with a six-course meal and live music from the Middle Ages brought to you by St. Andrew’s Presbyterian. Advance tickets are $33. Costumes encouraged.

Oct. 31 — Scareview dance party at the Oliver Community Centre. Tons of famiy activities, live music, dance party, carnival games, candy, free popcorn, Karaoke and The Super Cooligans will perform. Admission by donation. Event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m.

Oct. 31 to Nov. 27 — Miniature Art Show at the Front Street Gallery. Call for artists to submit work is until Oct. 16.

Until Nov. 3 — Psychiatric Art Show Beyond Words – how does my garden grow? at the Penticton Art Gallery in partnership of the Mental Wellness Centre.

Nov. 13 — Kitchen Stove Film Series presents The Railway Man starring Nicole Kidman and Collin Firth. Showtimes at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Penticton Landmark Cinema 7.

Nov. 13 to Dec. 6 — Many Hats Theatre Company presents the humourous and touching story of Marion Bridge. Showtimes are Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Nov. 30 — Children’s Showcase presents Winter’s Dance, a co-production by Even Dance and Okanagan Dance Studios. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and show starts at 2 p.m.

Dec. 16 — Cirque Musica Holiday Spectacular at the South Okanagan Events Centre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $45,  $55 and $75 and kids under 12 are $25.
