The Bolshoi Ballet is coming to theatre screens in Nanaimo

NANAIMO - Seven of Bolshoi Ballet's , a Russian ballet company, productions come to Galaxy Cinema Nanaimo.

Ballet lovers have the opportunity to watch a series of films focusing on Bolshoi Ballet productions this fall.

Seven of the Russian ballet company’s productions will be shown at Cineplex theatres, including Galaxy Cinema Nanaimo, located at Nanaimo North Town Centre.

The Golden Age cabaret is set in a seaside town during the roaring ’20s. A young fisherman named Boris falls in love with a dancer named Rita. It shows Oct. 16.

The Bright Stream is set on a collective farm. During a harvest festival a visiting dance troupe reunites a ballerina with her childhood friend named Zina.

Zina swaps roles with the ballerina’s husband one evening to teach the unfaithful husband a lesson.

It shows Nov. 27.

The Nutcracker, a classic Christmas tale, shows Dec. 11.

Sleeping Beauty, the tale of Princess Aurora cursed to sleep for 100 years until a kiss from a prince awakens her, shows Jan. 22.

Swan Lake tells the story of Prince Siegfried who meets swan-woman Odette on the moonlit shores of a lake. It shows Feb. 12.

A Contemporary Evening features the work of contemporary choreographers.

It includes Han Van Manen’s Frank Bridge’s Variations, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot’s Short Time Together and Alexei Ratmansky’s Russian Seasons. It shows March 19.

A Hero of Our Time is the story of a young officer named Pechorin who journeys across the Caucasus mountains. It shows April 9.

Tickets are $20, $19 for seniors or $13 for children.
