‘Tis the season for holiday light displays, and over on 172A Street in Cloverdale, residents are once again engaging in a little good-natured rivalry, offering more bang for your block if you’re driving around to admire local bright spots this season.
“There’s a little war where there’s more and more lights each year,” says resident Nadeene Gill. “It’s kind of fun.”
She says nearly the whole cul-de-sac gets involved, putting up lights and displays, but the residents at 6306 and 6307 172A Street really seem to spur each other on each year.
If you’re heading to Fleetwood, don’t miss the Lagerstrom family Christmas display, a fundraiser for Camp Goodtimes.
Clayton Heights resident Gage Staley, a Grade 2 student at Clayton Elementary who’s been battling cancer since he was 3, got to flip the switch at the Lagerstrom’s this year, turning on 25,000 Christmas lights.
The computer-controlled display, synchronized to music, is at 15466 91A Avenue.
The lights are on to Dec. 31, from 5 to 10 p.m. Sundays to Thursdays, from 5 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, from 5 p.m. to midnight on Christmas and Boxing Day, and from 5 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.
Tune your car radio to 102.1 FM for the full effect.
The goal is to raise $1,500 for Camp Goodtimes, a medically-supervised recreational facility for children with cancer and their families, run by the Canadian Cancer Society. Since 2005 the Lagerstroms have raised more than $25,000 for charity.
