Vancouver five-piece The Matinée brings some rocking alt-country licks to Party in the Park in Central Community Park, as the headliner this Friday night.
Their live act is described “as a long established uproar of stomping, clapping, and blazing chops,” on their bio.
“The songs were already formidable enough to lodge themselves in local radio playlists (and beyond: “$50”, “Mama”, “Let Her Go”).
“On top of that, the band had emerged as the kind of outfit that could swing between the Merritt Mountain Music Festival and the hipster ground zero of Vancouver’s Biltmore Cabaret without breaking a sweat.
The Party in the Park entertainment will also showcase country sensation AJ Woodworth, and harmonizing sister act from Langley, Robyn and Ryleigh.
A Canadian Country Music Association New Artist Showcase Award winner, AJ Woodworth grew up on a diet of Brooks & Dunn, Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison and helps run a nursing home, which is the family business.
“Music is the most important thing to me; it can make me feel better, and I have always wanted to affect someone like that through the songs that I write and my song selection.”
Robyn and Ryleigh Gillespie have been popping up around the Lower Mainland for the past couple of years, now. The duo performed in Vancouver during the Winter Olympics, have played Merritt and competed in the recent Langley Has Talent competition.
