Annual Christmas production by Canadian School of Ballet returns Dec. 11 to 13.

A Kelowna Christmas holiday tradition, The Nutcracker, will return for the 26th year presented by the Canadian School of Ballet.

Filled with fantasy and magic, there will be five performances of The Nutcracker beginning Friday, Dec. 11, with a 7:30 p.m. performance, followed on the Saturday and Sunday with matinee, 2:30 p.m., and evening, 7:30 p.m., performances at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

Tickets for the five shows are already available onlline at KelownaTickets.com and will also be for sale as of Saturday at the website box office ticket location Orchard Park Mall.

“The Nutcracker has been delighting Okanagan families for the past 25 years,” said  the Canadian School of Ballet co-owner and one of The Nutcracker choreographers Carley Bailey.

“The show remains a cherished, heart-warming tradition for the entire family and we look forward to another year.”

The Nutcracker first premiered a week before Christmas in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Alexandre Dumas Père’s adaptation of the story by E.T.A. Hoffmann was set to music by Tchaikovsky and originally choreographed by Marius Petipa. Since premiering in North America, it has become perhaps the most popular ballet performed around Christmas time.
