NORTH SAANICH – Pianist Peter Dent will bring his trio to Jazz Vespers at St. John’s United Church on Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m.  Dent will be joined by Alex Olson on bass and Jon Miller on drums.

Peter Dent is a jazz pianist, composer, choral arranger and choir conductor based in Victoria.

In a career spanning 50 years, Peter Dent has worked with and recorded with some of the finest jazz musicians in Canada, including Dave Young, Neil Swainson, Steve Wallace, Terry Clarke, Archie Allayne, Marcus Mosely and P.J Perry. He worked regularly in past decades with the big bands of Dal Richards, Mart Kenny and the Preservation of Swing.  He has appeared internationally in California, Cuba, the UK, Prague, and Budapest.  Over the years he led groups at the All Canadian and Brockville Jazz Festivals.  Peter has produced several CD’s reflecting his interest in fusing the rhythms of jazz with the hymns of the church.

Jon Miller is a drummer, drum instructor and band leader based in Victoria.

Before locating to the West Coast in 1999 he lived in Montreal, Philadelphia and Amsterdam, playing drums in a wide range of formations.

Alex Olson has been a member of the Victoria Symphony since 1981. He is also a well-known freelancing bass player who plays musicals, opera, folk, jazz and rock.

The Jazz Vespers series continues Nov. 6 with the Eryn Sharpe Trio, Dec. 4 with the Monik Nordine Trio, and Jan. 8 with the Damian Graham Trio.
