The story’s afoot as The MAC hosts Holmes

Veteran storytellers share the world of Sherlock Holmes in Tales for the Telling series Friday, Feb. 26

Tales for the Telling will present Ottawa storytellers Kathie Kompass and Mary Wiggin with their show, The Game’s Afoot: Stories from Sherlock Holmes this Friday, at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville.

Step out of the shadows and plunge into the fog-damped streets of Holmesian London, where violence and danger abound. In The Dying Detective, Holmes’ very existence is threatened but Watson is determined to help his friend in any way he can.

And don’t imagine a sortie to the bucolic countryside will provide a safe haven, especially for the former captain of an Arctic whaler whose past has come back to haunt him. Arthur Conan Doyle drew on his own experiences on the ice floes of the Arctic seas to craft The Adventure of Black Peter.

This program was first presented to rave reviews at the National Art Centre during its 2014-2015 season.  Kompass has

30 years of experience as a storyteller and leader of storytelling workshops.

Wiggin is renowned for her exquisite sense of language and her flashes of quicksilver humour and delights audiences with her well-honed tales.

Tickets are $12, $10 for Arts Centre members. They may be purchased in advance at The MAC, 133 McMillan Ave., or online at www.eventbrite.ca. Remaining tickets will be available at the door.
