Provocative and entertaining, the second annual Theatre on the Edge takes place July 22 to July 24 at Shuswap Theatre.
There will be a new collective creation from the Seniors’ Theatre and, on the other end of the age spectrum, a new collective creation from Runaway Moon Theatre’s youth company.
Two collections of short plays will include Vernon’s Powerhouse Theatre performance of Parental Guidance and Fred Skelton’s All in the Timing. The event will feature: Marionette theatre, musical theatre, sketch comedy and two solo plays – Devon More with Berlin Waltz and The Comedian by Calvin White.
“Salmon Arm, get ready for liberation,“ exclaims White, who introduces us to Eddie Domino, who channels George Carlin, Chris Rock and Swami Paradise to create havoc and free souls.
“This is unabashed, raunchy, no-holds-barred liberation from the chains of repression,” says White. The Comedian takes to the stage at 3 p.m. Friday, July 22 and 9 p.m. Saturday, July 23.
Other edgy offerings include:
• Parental Guidance, Powerhouse Theatre – Four short comedies from the ridiculous to the touching in parent/child relationships. ( 3 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday)
• Berlin Waltz, Devon More – a Cold War Cabaret featuring sock puppets, the Stasi, satire and the original tunes of Devon More. (9 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Sunday)
• All in the Timing, Fred Skeleton – A collection of comedies focusing on language, romance, and moments of clashing and connection. (5 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday)
• The Essence of Me, The Third House Multimedia – The residents of the Retirement Centre disappear – do they want to be found? Created and performed by the Seniors’ Theatre Project. (11 a.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday)
• The Edge of the Forest, Runaway Moon Theatre – A marionette show, small in scale but extraordinary in scope and effect. Created and performed by young artists. (5 p.m. Saturday ad 1 p.m. Sunday)
• Time Signatures, Saucy Fops – A comedic look at the pacing and rhythm of life using sharp dialog, movement and a few tempo changes. (7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday)
