Surrey Arts Centre hosts Arts Club Musical Theatre Intensive’s Junior Program for youth.

Do you know someone between the ages of 12 and 16 whose exuberance knows no bounds when it comes to singing, dancing, and acting?

Would that person love to take their skills to the next level plus meet friends with similar aspirations and interests?

For more than ten years, Surrey Arts Centre has partnered with Peter Jorgensen and the Arts Club Theatre Company to offer the Arts Club Musical Theatre Intensive’s Junior Program.

For two weeks in July, students are immersed in the kind of training typically found only at the post-secondary level. The instructors encourage process over product and allow the students to be authentic and expressive on any stage they play – building their confidence and sense of community.

This year’s Surrey Intensive takes place July 4 to 15 (Monday to Friday), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a cost of $495.

There are just a few spots left and all applications must be received before June 15.

More information – including the application form plus videos of students in action and alumni talking about their experiences and what they’ve accomplished since taking the Intensive – is available at surrey.ca/theatre

Graduates of the Junior Program have appeared in recent Arts Club productions including the current production of Billy Elliot.

Delta-raised Kayla Dunbar is one of their favourite alumni. Since taking the program, Dunbar has become an award-winning performer and MTI instructor who inspires the next wave of students. She appeared on our Main Stage as Kate Monster / Lucy in the Arts Club’s touring production of Avenue Q.
