1. The annual “Blues for the Bank” benefit concert happens again on Saturday night (Jan. 21) at Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel, where the band Agent C and Top Secret – and promised special guests – will play to raise funds for Surrey Food Bank’s Tiny Bundles program. The good times start at 7 p.m., with “music, dancing, adult beverages and more,” according to event planner Chris Thornley. Tickets are $30 via Thornley Creative (#15-15243  91st Ave., Surrey) and the food bank, 604-581-2827.

2. Family Literacy Day will be celebrated on Saturday (Jan. 21) during another Surrey Kids Read event held at Guildford Town Centre’s centre court. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., that area of the mall will be alive with live music by Tony Prophet, storytelling magic by Silly Suzie and appearances by The Purple Pirate and Walter & Jazzy. “We are proud to report that over the past year, Surrey Libraries welcomed an additional 17 per cent more kids and teens at our library programs that support family learning,” says Sara Grant, manager of youth services at Surrey Libraries. More event details can be found at Surreylibraries.ca.

3. Another series of morning workshops hosted by Surrey Board of Trade starts on Wednesday (Jan. 25) with a session intriguingly titled, “Interpreting Body Language Effectively in Our Fast-Paced World,” starting at 8 a.m. at the board’s office, #101-14439 104th Ave. Future workshops include “Surviving the Communication Highway,” “Creating and Delivering an Elevator Speech” and “How to Get the Right Work Done.” Admission is $25 per person, per session. Event details are posted Businessinsurrey.com, or call 604-581-7130.
