1. Comedians Erica Sigurdson, Ivan Decker, Patrick Maliha and others will perform during LOL For Life 2, an event organized to benefit The Suicide Prevention Education and Counselling (SPEAC) program in Surrey. The night of laughs will happen Saturday (Nov. 28) at the Chief Sepass Theatre in Fort Langley, with advance tickets priced at $20 (or $25 at the door, 9096 Trattle St.). “I have seen the work SPEAC does, and they are very good at helping the youth in our schools work their way through suicide issues,” said Kevin Statham, who manages the theatre and founded the LOL For Life event following the 2014 suicide death of comedian Robin Williams. For show details and tickets, call 778-808-3703 or visit Lolforlife2.brownpapertickets.com.

2. Like basketball? Bounce on down to Kwantlen Park Secondary gym this Saturday (Nov. 28) for the inaugural “Jingle Hoops,” an event organized by Surrey Christmas Bureau as a fun and sporty way to generate donations this holiday season. “It’s a day of just basketball-related activities, some skill demonstrations, some pickup games, very recreational,” explained KC Gilroy, the bureau’s co-ordinator. The action happens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, located at 10441 132nd St., Surrey. If you attend, please consider bringing a new unwrapped toy to donate, or cash. For info, call Surrey Christmas Bureau at 604-581-9623 or visit Christmasbureau.com.

3. For three hours this Sunday (Nov. 29), Santa will again be in the house to pose for photos with local pets, as part of a fundraiser staged by Urban Safari Rescue Society at its facility in South Surrey. A pro photographer will be there from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the owner of each pet will receive a digital copy of the best photo taken and also one 5×7 print. The fee is a minimum $15 donation to the organization, and all cash raised will go toward the care of its 350 rescues and abandoned exotic animals, at 1395 176th St., Surrey. For more details, visit Urbansafari.ca or call 604-531-1100.
