1. In Newton, a crafters tent, a “bring your own picnic” invite and live music is part of a “Party at the PLOT,” at the temporary food-sharing garden and medicine wheel created on a vacant piece of property to the south of Newton Arena. The event, set for Sunday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is billed as “a day of creativity, mini workshops, art, music, food and fun.” Check it out at the corner of 71st Avenue and 137A Street, or go online at Facebook.com/pfsbureau.

2. On B.C. Day (Monday, Aug. 1), dance performances, music, food and, most importantly, bursts of coloured powder are promised during an all-ages Holi Colour Festival at Surrey’s Lakshmi Narayan Mandir (8321 140th St.), from 2 to 7 p.m. The ticketed event – prices range from $5 to $45, or free for those 10 and under – celebrates “a traditional Indian holiday celebrated in our own innovative fashion, adapted to the contemporary Canadian/American scene,” according to a post at Colourfestvancouver.com.

3. A pair of acclaimed CBC documentaries will be screened here as part of Pride Week activities. KDocs Community Outreach, a partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), will bring “How We Got Gay” and “Transforming Gender” to its Surrey campus on Thursday, July 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. The post-screening panel discussion will involve KPU students, faculty and community activists. The event is free to attend at 12666 72nd Ave., in the Fir Building. For more details, visit Kdocsff.com/upcoming-events.
