1. Close to 4,000 racers and 1,000 spectators are expected for this year’s Rugged Maniac event, set for Saturday (Aug. 13) at Cloverdale Fairgrounds. More than two dozen obstacles – tunnels, trampolines, fire pits, a 50-foot waterslide and more – are part of the race, which includes a festival full of music, food and beer. Amrit Bains, a local musician best known for his upbeat songs about life in Surrey (including the TV news-worthy “Super Sweet City”), returns to the stage on Saturday evening (Aug. 13) with “Fun in Surrey,” the title of his concert at Surrey Arts Centre. 3. Demonstrations, displays, live music and crafts are featured at Surrey Museum’s Fibre Arts and Crafts Festival, on Saturday (Aug. 13) from 1 to 4 p.m. The free event will also involve a finger weaving exploration with Mechtild Morin, a visit by fashion historian Ivan Sayers and dog hair-spinning lessons from Philippa Joy.
