1. At Surrey Archives in Cloverdale, “Nostalgic Programs” are in full swing this fall. Three events on the calendar are designed to give visitors a look at Surrey through a historical lens, starting with a “Surrey in the ’40s” session on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to noon. “Retro photos, local recollections and news rags bring this decade of war, victory and development to life,” for a fee of $11 per person. To register or learn more, call 604-502-6459 or visit Surrey.ca/heritage. Looking ahead, other events in the series are “Fitzmaurice and the Great War” (on Nov. 12, featuring Great War cartoons by the Province’s James Fitzmaurice) and “Winter in the City” (on Dec. 10).

2. On Sunday afternoon (Oct. 9), the Thanksgiving-themed Vespers in the Valley event at Fleetwood’s Northwood United Church will feature the sounds of pop-jazz vocalist Amanda Wood (pictured) with fellow musicians Rosemary Siemens, Eli Bennett and Roy Tan. The by-donation concert/service starts at 4 p.m. at 8855 156th St., Surrey. Looking ahead, the fortnightly series continues this fall with performances by Deanna Knight (on Oct. 23), Dave Guiney Swing Band (Nov. 13), the Arntzens’ 3 Generations ensemble (Nov. 20), the Mighty Fraser Big Band (Dec. 4) and others musicians.

3. The days are getting shorter and the air much colder, but things are still happening at Bose Corn Maze. Visitors have until Oct. 16 – including on Thanksgiving Day, Oct. 10 – to check out the agricultural labyrinth, located at 64th Avenue and 156th Street in Surrey. For hours and admission rates, visit Bosecornmaze.com or call 778-578-5450.
