1. A new “Museum After Dark” event will allow guests to look inside the vault at Surrey Museum on Thursday, Nov. 19. Local wine and tapas will be served at the event, which features a “Dark Things” theme and includes a guided tour of the vault and a display of rare and unusual dark artifacts, such as demon masks, noir fashions and art made of human hair. The event in Cloverdale is designed as “a night out where adults can socialize, enjoy local wine and appetizers, and check out some very unusual items from our collection,” said Lynn Saffery, museum manager. The adults-only event runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance by calling 604-592-6956, or sign up using the Surrey.ca web registration system. Surrey Museum is located at 17710 56A Ave., Surrey.

2. On Monday evening (Nov. 16), Vancouver Symphony Orchestra returns to Surrey’s Bell Performing Arts Centre with “Sensational Melodies,” a concert featuring British pianist Stephen Hough. Described as one of the music world’s most stimulating personalities, Hough is grateful to be alive; nearly a decade ago, he survived a terrifying car accident on the M1 motorway. In concert Monday, all three pieces with the VSO will touch on love in some way, including Robert Schumann’s “Piano Concerto in A minor,” Richard Wagner’s “Prelude to Act III of Tristan und Isolde” and Béla Bartók’s “Concerto for Orchestra.” For show and ticket details, visit Vancouversymphony.ca or call 604-876-3434.

3. Famoso has brought its fire-roasted Neapolitan pizza, along with an expanded menu and service model, to Guildford Town Centre. The full-service restaurant, which opened to the public on Oct. 26, is the chain’s second location in Surrey. The Guildford eatery, operated by Gus Bajwa and Christoph Barrow, features a centre bar area, lounge area, pasta dishes and modern decor. Check it out for lunch or dinner.
