1. Another evening of DIY art-making is promised during inFlux, a semi-regular event held at Surrey Art Gallery. It’s a chance to socialize at the Bear Creek-area gallery, with beverages and snacks at the all-ages event, on Friday, Nov. 6 from 8 to 11 p.m. The evening will feature a diverse line-up of artists including Gamelan Bike Bike, a nine-person band that creates polyrhythmic melodies with instruments that are handmade from recycled bike parts. Hip-hop, rap, and soul singer Missy D will perform alongside local high school poets, and exhibiting artist Carmen Papalia will invite participants to experience the gallery through their non-visual senses. Also, local artists Debbie Tuepah and Carlyn Yandle will be leading a collaborative sculpture with whoever wants to join, creating a giant textural web out of recycled cloth. More details are posted here: http://www.surrey.ca/culture-recreation/17788.aspx.

2. Indoor arenacross action returns to Cloverdale Agriplex this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 6-7) as part of Future West Moto’s 2015 Canadian Arenacross Championships, an eight-round series that includes dates in other parts of B.C. A number of races are on the schedule. For all the details, including ticket prices and more, visit http://futurewestmoto.ca/arenacross.

3. The annual Dove Release event hosted by Surrey Hospice Society is set for Sunday, Nov. 8 at Bear Creek Park Pavilion, starting at 9:30 a.m. The memorial service includes readings and, of course, the release of doves, each of which can be purchased for $50 and released in the name of a loved one. It’s a beautiful service. For more details and to get involved, call 604-584-7006 or visit Surreyhospice.com.
