A youth dance, live bands, a breakdance battle and pumped-up sumo wrestling are just some of the fun things happening at Surrey Youth Fest, an annual day-long event set for Saturday, Sept. 19 at Cloverdale Recreation Centre, starting at 1 p.m. and running until 11 that evening. The festival will also feature skateboarding and scooter demos (at the adjacent youth park), a photo booth, giveaways, youth-focused resource tables and more. On the music side of things, DJ Deth Klown will be dropping beats, and the mainstage band lineup includes 20-minute sets by (in order, starting at 1:40 p.m.) Curtis Heimburger, Occasionally Dropped, Switch to Black, The Known Radicals, Ministry of Misfits, She Dreams in Colour, Sierra Pilcher, Kandy Kings, New Spirit, Ava Carich and Josh Bogert. 2. Down in South Surrey, Historic Stewart Farm is ready to host its annual Olde Harvest Fair on Saturday (Sept. 19) from noon to 3 p.m. Surrey’s agricultural past and present is celebrated with family-friendly games, activities and entertainment, including orchard tours with master gardener Roger Phillips, sack races, cider- and butter-making demos, music by the Central Fraser Valley Fiddlers, stories by The Re-enactors troupe, a vendor market and more. In the spirit of the community harvest, bring non-perishable food items to donate to the South Surrey/White Rock Food Bank. 3. More than 8,000 people and 100 exhibitors are expected to participate in the 2015 PICS Mega Job Fair and B.C. Small Business Expo, which should make Aria Banquet Hall a busy place next Thursday, Sept. 24. The eighth annual event is designed to benefit both job-seekers and local businesses looking to hire.
