Three Things to Do This Week (Surrey, North Delta)

1. On Saturday night (Aug. 8, 7:30 p.m. start), proud Surreyite Amrit Bains sings at Surrey Arts Centre in a show he calls “Free Like a Junglee.” Bains, who drives a bus when not performing music, loves to mix music and fun, and for this concert he’ll be joined by a dance team and also Paul Anthony of Talent Time as the MC. Check out Bains’ songs “Super Sweet City,” “Route 99” and others on his entertaining Youtube page (Youtube.com/user/TheStormyStormy1) and at Amritbains.com. Tickets for the show are $15 via 604-501-5566. Click here for more details.

2. Surrey’s Al “DJ Alibaba” Lamons is busy again with another of his fun Summer Splash events, a yearly fundraiser for Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon. The party is Sunday (Aug. 9) at Splashdown Park in Tsawwassen, with DJs, a basketball tournament, dance performances and more. Event admission is $20.99. It’s all done under the umbrella of Lamons’ F.U.B.A.R. group – a familiar acronym that stands for Friends United Beyond All Race, not for what you think it does. Look for details at Friendsunitedbeyondallrace.com. Later this month, F.U.B.A.R. will host its Golf Classic event at Guildford Golf & Country Club on Sunday, Aug. 30 (info at Golfemsreg.com/events/fubar_golf_classic).

3. I love my burger bathed in Triple O sauce, so I get pretty excited for White Spot’s Pirate Pak Day. The annual fundraiser is on Wednesday, Aug. 12 – a fine time to order one of the platters, because a toonie from the sale of every “adult” Pirate Pak is donated to Zajac Ranch for Children to give its summer camp program a giant financial boost. Locally, White Spot restaurants are located in the Central City, Guildford and Panorama Ridge areas of Surrey, and on Scott Road in North Delta. For more Pirate Pak Day details, visit Whitespot.ca.
