Three Things to Do This Week (Surrey, North Delta)

1. The hour-long Jazz Vespers in the Valley concerts at Northwood United Church continue Sunday afternoon (May 24, 4 p.m.) with a combo led by vocalist/instrumentalist Karen Graves and featuring fellow A-list players Miles Black on piano, Rene Worst on bass, Bernie Arai on drums. Every second and fourth Sunday at the Fleetwood-area church, “music for the soul” is interspersed with poetry and Bible readings, in the tradition of church gatherings first held in New York in the mid-1960s. Admission is by donation at 8855 156th St., at 88th Avenue. For the calendar of other Vespers performers this spring, visit Northwood-united.org/news/jazz-vespers-spring-schedule.

2. Members of Surrey Board of Trade celebrate the rebranded Four Points by Sheraton hotel (formerly Coast Surrey Guildford) during a business reception on Tuesday, May 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 10410 158th St., Surrey. The event is a chance for people to “learn more about the hotel while making new business contacts and enjoying fine food and refreshments.” Also next week is SBOT’s “Surrey’s Top 25 Under 25” awards reception, on Thursday (May 28) at Eaglequest Golf Course. 3. North Delta’s Watershed Artworks Gallery is the place to be for the annual Whole Lotta Art Artisan Festival this Saturday (May 23), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, at 11425 84th Ave., is a great opportunity to meet local artists and see their works, with food and entertainment also involved. Looking ahead, Watershed Artworks Society’s gallery and gift shop will be closing June 20 and will re-open in the fall in its new home, in the newly renovated North Delta Recreation Centre.
