1. On Saturday (April 16), Surrey poet laureate Renée Sarojini Saklikar is part of a day-long event called “Write Here, Read Now,” aimed at writers and readers. City Centre Library is the venue for local authors and avid readers to connect with each other and to discover resources available in our city, according to chief librarian Melanie Houlden. The event features a fiction-writing workshop with author Aislinn Hunter, 15-minute blue pencil writing consultations with Saklikar, and a session of Authors Among Us, an interactive panel discussion with local authors. The goal of the all-ages club is “to promote good health and physical fitness by encouraging people to enjoy outdoor exercise in pleasant, stress-free settings.” For more details, visit the group’s website, Surreytrekkers.com.
3. Myriam Laroche, founder and president of Eco-Fashion Week in Vancouver, is the guest speaker during a special event at Surrey Museum on Saturday afternoon (April 16, 1 to 2:30 p.m.). Laroche will talk about how our fashion choices impact the environment, and will also offer advice on how consumers and fashionistas alike can make eco-fashion choices. “If you buy 10 pieces of new clothes per month, try to buy one secondhand piece next month,” she recently told Flare magazine. The session fee is $10. To register, call 604-592-6956. The museum is located at 17710 56A Ave. in Cloverdale.
