Art students at Timberline Secondary School have been busy making spectacular work this year, which will be on display at the Tidemark Theatre through the end of April.
This year’s student art show features over 80 eclectic pieces of various mediums including acrylic and watercolour paintings, drawings, ceramic sculptures, digital art and more.
Grade 11 student Sophie Ogg says she’s excited to see everyone’s art on the walls of the tidemark all together and for everyone in the community to see how creative the students can be.
Her watercolour painting of blueberries took her between 10 and 12 hours and she’s thrilled to be able to show it off to the people of Campbell River alongside her fellow students’ work.
Grade 12 student Abigail MacDonald feels the same. Her abstracted cityscape was her first time painting in oils and applying paint with a palette knife.
“It moved the paint in a more uncontrollable way, which kept the painting loose,” MacDonald says. “I like the piece because it’s not perfect with its details and it has an abstract element to it that captures the viewer’s imagination. It’s exciting when people look at the piece and see it in different ways.”
The grand opening of the exhibition is on Tuesday, March 20 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and many of the student artists will be in attendance, so stop by and congratulate them on their hard work paying off.
This mixed media collection is open for viewing at the Tidemark every Tuesday to Friday from noon to 4 p.m. until the end of April.
And don’t forget to stop by the gallery next Tuesday, March 20, to meet the artists themselves.
