• The Red Mountain Racers Ski Swap goes Saturday at Willi Krause Fieldhouse. Gear check in starts at 8:30 a.m. and experienced volunteers will be on hand to help people price their gear if they need it. There is a charge of $1 per checked item. •The KBRH Health Foundation presents The Snowflake Gala in support of digital mammography on Saturday, at the Cominco Gym in the Trail Memorial Centre at 6 p.m. Enjoy live jazz throughout the evening by the Paul Landsberg Trio featuring Laura Landsberg.
• Kick up your heels at the Halloween Dance at the Miners’ Hall with Kootenay Music Award Winners, the seven piece roots and blues band “Bessie and The Back Eddies,” who will heat up the stage for a masquerade party at the Rossland the Miners’ Hall on Saturday. Tickets $20, available in advance at Out of The Cellar in Rossland.
• The Fruitvale Senior Citizens Branch 44 hosts its annual White Elephant and bake sale on Saturday at the Beaver Valley Manor in Fruitvale from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission $5, everyone welcome.
• The Tuesday Morning Quilters invite one and all to their 10th annual Coffee Party, Quilt Show and Sale, Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Trail United Church. Admission is by donation. Proceeds of the sale go to local charities. In conjunction with this event the Trail United Church Women are having a bake sale.
• Dine with the Canadian National Sledge Hockey Team Saturday. Cocktails are served at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. Call Eleanor Gattafoni-Robinson at (250) 364-1968, Pat Zanier at (250) 362-5825 or Tony Morelli at (250) 368-9736 to purchase tickets. Dinner tickets are $25 each.
•Warfield Recreation is hosting their annual Halloween party at the Warfield Community Hall on Wednesday, October 31 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Enjoy games, food and fun for all. Come have a ghoulishly good time with us.
• Visit the drop-in Centre for adults at the Alliance Meeting Place, 3375 Laburnum Dr. next to Alliance Church. An informal place where adults meet to play games, do crafts, puzzles, have coffee and socialize. Everyone welcome. Monday from 1-4 p.m. Come for a few minutes or stay all afternoon.
• Trail Special Olympics Halloween SpookTacular on Saturday, is cancelled.
Cinema
• Reel Change Sustainability Film Fest screens tonight at the Royal Theatre, featuring the films “Switch” and “On the Line.” The films explore the future of renewable sources of energy and the potential effects of the Enbridge pipleline. Show times 7 and 9 p.m. $10 for both films.
Gallery
• The Visac Gallery explores the allure and accessibility of hand-made books. Artists Nyla Raney and Jenn Hamm will be displaying work from their regional Book Arts project ‘Speaking Volumes’. A special feature in this exhibit is a private collection of international mail art and hand made books by local artist Gail D. Whitter. The exhibit runs until Nov. 23. Gallery hours are: M-W, 10-2, and Th-F, 2-6. Admission is by donation.
