CLOVERDALE — Surrey’s big Canada Day party this year will feature Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, event organizers announced today.
The annual flag-waving event, expected to draw at least 100,000 people, will take place on Friday, July 1 at its usual site: Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre.
Cochrane last played Surrey’s Canada Day event in 2006, with the band Chilliwack as openers.

Other performers at the event this year include Mark Donnelly, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, TYhe Dudes, DJ Flip Out, Heroes of Rock, EnKarma with VanCity Bhangra, Lanie McAuley, Jocelyn Pettit, Alexis Lynn, Cedar Hills Caledonian Pipe Band, Kristie McCracken, Ginalina, Matt Henry, tributes to Johnny Cash & June Carter, Pat Chessell Band, Dirty Mike & The Boys, Alouest, DRS B-Boys, Metis Jiggers and Ava Carich.
This year’s event will also feature an expanded play area for kids, more than 100 exhibitors, a “win a car” contest sponsored by Surrey Honda, Science World on the Road shows, midway rides and games and more.
The event is free to the public. Things get going at 10 a.m. and continue until the closing fireworks show at 10:15 p.m.
