TONIGHT: Rotary beer sampling event helps Langley youth gear up for jobs

The annual Rotary Tip 'N Taste, which is hosted by three Langley Rotary Clubs, is on tonight at Cascades Casino.

Langley Association for Community Living will be the benefactor of tonight’s Rotary Tip ‘n’ Taste.

The 15th annual fundraising event – featuring a bounty of beer and food – is once again being organized by three Langley Rotary Clubs and is once again being held at the Coast Hotel & Convention Centre. This year it is on Friday, July 8, running from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

This year’s event features about 24 breweries offering samples of their craft beers and wine coolers. There will also food samples from eight Langley restaurants, plus music by Brett Wade.

With the popularity of craft beers and independent brewers, committee chair David Truman say he expects the attendance at this will be huge.

“People love to come out and sample new beers… this is the venue,” he said, noting they could add more breweries, but there isn’t room.

As for the charity, Truman said this one was picked this year based on financial need.

Last year’s Tip ‘n’ Taste generated $12,000 for Langley Lodge. And this year, with a similar goal in mind, the money will help young people living with developmental disabilities get outfit and trained for new jobs in the community, interjected Rotarian Calla Krause.

“That’s important. I think people need to know they’re helping a lot of local people,” she added.

Truman added: “We like to spread it around and pick different charities every year.”

Tickets to this fundraiser are $35, available from tipntaste.com or from a Rotarian. Tickets entitle adults to five drink samples. Extra tickets are $2.50 each.
