Children can let their imaginations take them to the moon September 15, as Toopy and Binoo come to the Port Theatre for a musical adventure.
Toopy and Binoo is a popular kids TV show involving a giant mouse with a wild imagination and his companion, a tiny cat.
Toopy and Binoo and the Marshmallow Moon will have the two friends traveling on a musical quest where they encounter a Blue Cat Blues Band, a loud mouth crooner fish, some British stroaming sheep and a pair of love struck dragons, among other characters.
Award-winning choreographer Patti Caplette is the director and choreographer of the show and she brings with her a wealth of experience in dance, starting when she was just three years old and performing on international stages with Canada’s leading dance companies.
Caplette has also worked in theatre, television, film, opera, cabaret, symphony and even the circus, and said all these experiences have helped her prepare for her current role creating theatricals for family audiences. She is the artistic director and co-founding partner of Koba Entertainment, the company bringing this show and other popular kids productions across the country.
She said she enjoys putting on Toopy and Binoo shows because, like the books and TV show, she can let her imagination run wild.
“We’re allowed to go from under the sea into the sky and through the doorway in a matter of seconds and it doesn’t have to have any physical logic at all,” she said.
Caplette said the songs in the show, written by Juno award winner and B.C. resident Norman Foote, are amazing, and the cast members are “triple threat” performers who will “keep everyone totally engaged and hoppin’ about in their seats.”
The show incorporates music, theatre, dance, puppetry and multimedia technology.
