The Qualicum Beach Acoustic Cafe will feature acclaimed folk singer Ian Tamblyn on April 5, who is visiting the area from Quebec.

Tamblyn won English Songwriter of the Year for his CD Gyre by the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2010, and he’s won a slew of other awards, including a Juno for his self-titled album in 1976.

The singer songwriter has recorded 35 albums and written over 1,500 songs. Tamblyn puts on many songwriting workshops as well as performing and adventuring around the world.

He spent 40 days in Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands in the winter of 2010 followed by work in Scotland, Iceland, Greenland and the Canadian Arctic in association with Adventure Canada and Students on Ice.

The Acoustic Cafe starts at 7:30 with open stage acts, followed by intermission where coffee and homemade treats are available, and Tamblyn will play after that.

The Acoustic Cafe happens the first Friday of every month at the Rotary House on Fern Road West on the corner of Beach Road in Qualicum Beach. Tickets are $5 from the Vintage Candy Shop in Qualicum Beach, youth are free.
