Semiahmoo Academy of Music student awarded gold medal

South Surrey piano student Matthew Lebl received the Royal Conservatory of Music gold medal at a convocation and awards ceremony held Sunday (March 2) at the UBC Chan Centre.

Lebl, 10, scored an astonishing 98 per cent mark in his Grade 2 piano exam last year – highest mark in B.C.

He’s the second piano student at Semiahmoo Academy of Music to receive the top honour in the space of two years.

In 2011, Emily Xu scored 95 per cent on her Grade 3 exam, winning the gold medal for the highest mark in B.C., which was presented to her last year.
